Nordic Food Geek and meatball historian Patrice Johnson loves food so much that by the time she was two years old she had an imaginary friend named Macaroni. Join her in this fun, educational, dynamic and hands-on cooking class to learn how to cook modern Swedish Supper!
Our menu will include a warming Yellow Pea Soup, or Ärtsoppa, traditionally eaten on Thursday nights. Served with crisped Lefse strips, you'll be satisfied indeed! Ärtsoppa is traditionally served with Swedish Pancakes, or Plättar. You'll learn how to make Plättar and enjoy topped with Ligonberry jam and whipped cream. Yum!
Taco Paj is another favorite - sort of like a taco quiche, but we use only one egg plus creme fraiche. All of these dishes have great stories to go with them, and teach a little something about Swedish culture.
Class prices includes generous sampling of everything prepared. One glass of wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage included. Printed recipe packets for each student.
Class Instructor: Patrice Johnson.
Johnson is a food and culture writer, teacher, and speaker. Patrice’s recently published book, “Jul: Swedish American Holiday Traditions,” explores the unique Swedish cuisine and immigrant stories of the North, and her column “Called to the Table” appears weekly in The Gaylord Hub.
